Part 6
1.. The plays introduced by Rumiana Russeva have been a part of a long time educational project in the ideas of UNESCO’s ethical programmes. As a teacher in English language and literature she has worked quite a lot on interdisciplinary methods of using poetry, fiction and drama in classes. Her own poetry and plays are orientated to solving contemporary ethical problems of the individual and the community – family, nation and society. Based on world universal principles and world cultures, the plays give a new vision of the future. The word”sacred” in her plays has been used on different levels - a devoted son or a daughter can show a sacred love for his/ her parents, a devoted husband or wife also shows a sacred love for each other, and a devoted patriot shows a sacred love for his country, while a person whose love and actions are directed to the salvation of all mankind can be called a saint.

“ Back Home” by Rumyana Russeva ( Bulgaria)
Synopsis. The play is an expression of the new 21st century tendency of multicultural and inter-religious dialogue for the establishment of world peace. It is a love story between a Christian young man and a Muslim girl. Their desire to marry meets the opposition of the parents and the societies to whom they belong. The young man leaves his home for a journey quest to the East. He meets the representatives of different world religions – Islam, Buddhism, Confucianism and Christianity, centered on their founders. In discussion and revelations he manages to find out a new approach to solving out world conflicts. His deep love for his beloved and his devotion to God, makes him a leader of the new generation looking for true love and happiness in a dangerous world of contradictions and conflicts. Instead of being victims of the surrounding, both lovers pursue their happiness in faith and mutual trust. The story is framed by the dream of a small 12- year -old girl who suffers lonely and misunderstood in a family with an alcoholic father and a religious mother.
Even shown as a dream in the world of fantasies, the love story is an inspiring model for an outcome of the suppressed spiritual potentiality of the young people.
